There’s Something About Merry

[A quick note: This is the second book in the Misletoe Christmas series (that’s not actually what it’s called, I’m not sure of the name). I enjoyed the first so I was eager for the second. I think there will be a third one coming next year. They fallow each of the Winters siblings. I’d recommend reading the first one, first, but it’s not necessary and you can technically read them as stand alone.]

“𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲.”—Codi Hall

Clark, now a single dad, has returned to his hometown of Mistletoe, ID, almost a decade later. He’s taken a position as foreman at the Winters’ Family Christmas Tree Farm. It’s a position Merry Winters was hoping to inherit. After a string of bad relationships, Merry has sworn off men. Being a single dad, Clark has zero time or interest in bringing a woman into his life. But the two of them might have had a secret crush on each other back in high school. Will those feelings be rekindled as they start working together during the holiday season?

Another cute Christmas read! This is set at the Winters Christmas Tree Farm in Mistletoe, Idaho. We get tons of holiday vibes throughout the story. Plus some good romance tropes like Single dad, high school crush, emotionally off limits, etc. Also, the romance has a FUN twist. Our M/F love interest meet in real life, they’re sexually attracted to each other, but then they also meet anonymously through an online dating app. They have nooooo idea who the other is as they start exchanging emails!

It was a lot of fun to watch this unfold. As the reader, I knew what was going on, while the two MCs had no clue. I kept waiting for one of them to figure it out. They do, eventually. That made it so fun!

There’s Something About Merry starts one year after Nick and Noel’s Christmas Playlist (NANCP). I was excited to see another romance from one of the other Winters siblings. While we get a few scenes with the characters from the first book (Nick and Noel), this is entirely a book devoted to Merry and Clark. I admit, I’m soooo excited for Holly Winters and Declan’s romance (because let’s face it, it’s pretty obvious it’s coming!!). It’s going to be an EPIC enemies to lovers story.

Okay, so…the romance is cute. I loved the relationship that developed between Clark and Merry, and I loved Clark’s son, and how he added so many adorable moments to the story. He was a total cutie. Plus, there’s a pet dog!!!! Who doesn’t love pets in stories??

What about the smut? Well, there isn’t much. The author calls it “smexy” which is a great way to describe it. There are a couple of sex scenes, but not enough to be considered a spicy/smutty read. More like a smut meets sexy…hence, “smexy,” which is a word I’m totally going to start using.

How did this one stack up against the first (NANCP)? Well, unfortunately, It fell a little flat, comparatively. I still really enjoyed it for other reasons, but the first book is definitely better, IMO. Whereas the first book had tons of suspense going on in parallel to the romance, this one was a lot simpler. I didn’t enjoy the romance as much, either. But, it was still fun, and put me in the holiday spirit.
